In my previous blog, I briefly spoke about Soft Skills, let me tell you some more…
Children’s emotional and social skills need to be nurtured so they can deal with and relate to others better. With good social skills, children will be able to navigate their way better in this demanding world and have good personality traits, including soft skills such as great interpersonal skills.
Wikipedia describes soft skills as a term “often associated with a person’s Emotional Intelligence Quotient, the cluster of personality traits, social graces, communication, language, personal habits, friendliness, managing people, leadership, etc. that characterise relationships with other people.”
As a parent myself, I am not opposed to children watching TV, video games, iPads, or smartphones. My take on it is that it should not impact negatively on their social development, and should not be dumbing them down or making them more prone to keeping to themselves in any way. The costs or consequences of the excessive screenplay and electronic games are very expensive.
The magic word – what we need, I will emphasize – is balance.
From a parent’s point of view, ultimately we just want our children to be happy and joyful. At the same time, we want them to have incredible options for a successful and bright future.
How about achieving that in addition to our “good motives” of having them learn, be more creative, more socially interactive, and develop, as well and at the same time, using interactive play that is enriching and full of benefits? Can we get that, it does seem a tall order?
Yes, and all in one go! Find out more in my next blog…
